The only thing the first disciples are recorded to have asked Jesus to teach them is, “Lord teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). Perhaps, it is because they could see that Jesus’ life emerged out of his relationship with his Father. Maybe, they could see that the key to this new quality of life was prayer. Oh that we might become a people who learn to keep company with God. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus gives us the means by which space, time and our lives are opened to invasion by the kingdom.
